This site is a companion to the upcoming climbing reference  the Climbing Dictionary, to be published by The Mountaineers Books in summer 2011. In the hope of tweaking, refining, and adding to the nearly 670 definitions in the first edition, I’ve set up this site so that users can email me new terms.

I’ll add the terms here as they come in, and compile them for any upcoming additions. And don’t forget to check out the book itself: 668 climbing terms, slang, and neologisms defined, with killer art by the climber and illustrator Mike Tea and input from climbers all across North America and Europe.
